Solar thermal energy is used for two main purposes in homes, to generate electricity and to heat water.
Electricity Generation
The process of generating electricity from solar radiation is the use of a photovoltaic system. This system has photovoltaic cells are made of two semiconductor layers. Light falling on these semiconductors produces a flow of electricity used to power the home.
